Katanagatari- Deviant Blade, Dokuto Mekki

Maniwa Houou's blade and 11th deviant blade: Dokuto Mekki-- "Poison Sword, Gilt."

It's a rather simple sword but I wanted to stay as true to the design as possible-- referencing various clips and pics from the anime series. For a rather corrupt and poisonous blade, the design is rather elegant, gilded in flower-like markings, patterns, and leaves.

I carved the blade out of wood-- giving it its serrated edge-- and spraypainted in glossy black. I was then fortunate to find a glossy iridiscent wrapping paper, which I used to cut out the patterns. If you shine light on it it, the patterns flicker a sheen of various colors, befitting to the eeriness of the blade. Only thing missing is the ominous cloud-like aura enveloping this blade.
